The Canadian government has announced that the number of new immigrants next year will be 485,000, as in 2003. However, there is a plan to increase this number to five lakh in the year 2005. Indians are going to benefit the most from this. Last year, more than 118,000 Indians were granted permanent residence (PR) in Canada, which is one-fourth of the 437,120 people who came to Canada. With the new immigration targets, Canada’s population will grow by 1.3 percent each year.
